India and Pakistan have long been political enemies but an amazing hi-tech initiative by Leo Burnett, the ad agency which looks after Coca Cola, is making a small but dynamic change and bringing the two cultures together. The agency converted 2 vending machines into live communication portals using cameras and 3D touch screen technology to stream live video feeds between the machines. One was delivered to India, the other to Pakistan. ‘Active Shutter’ 3D technology projects a streaming feed onto a giant screen allowing the people at each end to see each other. In order to receive a can of Coca Cola the two parties are prompted on-screen to touch hands, draw peace symbols or heart shapes, dance, take photos of each other and once the interaction is completed the can is dispensed. The response has been very positive with people from both nations saying they would like to meet their neighbours.
