Building your own brand is a foundation stone of developing a strong long-term business. Imitating another brand can get you in a lot of trouble… the latest case to be revealed is that of telephone group Zen Telecom.

Zen Telecom has been taken to the Federal Court by the ACCC. The crime: allegedly claiming to be connected to Telstra. The allegation goes that Zen Telecom used telemarketing companies to make cold calls and during those calls made false and deceptive representation. That they were acting on behalf of Telstra or associated with the mobile giant.

There are 2 warnings here: build your own brand, don’t mess with someone else’s… and if you are a consumer always do some homework before believing the sales pitch.
